AFLW Collingwood

It’s the final round of the AFLW season with several do-or-die matches set to shape the lineup for the 2019 AFLW Finals. On Friday night, Geelong will be looking to secure their finals spot in their inaugural season when they take on the GWS Giants, before two huge matches on Saturday in Conference A. In virtual elimination finals, Melbourne will battle Adelaide, before Fremantle host North Melbourne. It’s highly possible that the two winners of those matches will progress to finals action. Then on Sunday, it’s over to Conference B where Collingwood will be hoping for their first points of the season against a desperate Brisbane, before Carlton will look to lock up their finals spot in a tough match against the Bulldogs.

Draftstars are offering a $500 guarantee for the Friday night contest, before both the Saturday and Sunday slates feature a $1,000 guarantee. We’ll provide you with some thoughts on the key players for the round to help you build your fantasy AFLW lineups, but if you’re looking for more in-depth statistical analysis and historical data then head to our AFLW Resources section.

Friday Night

Cora Staunton ($12,040) is getting better and better every week as she learns the AFL game and shows Australia why she is considered a Gaelic Football legend back in Ireland. Her last three weeks have posted an average of over 67 fantasy points and look for her to want to finish the season on a high.

Erin Hoare ($10,260) is also one who is hitting form at the right time after a delayed start to the season. I usually don’t like paying up for rucks in the women’s game, but Hoare’s last three weeks have been strong and her price doesn’t break the bank.

One player struggling a little is Madeline Keryk ($11,740) but her salary drop makes her appealing for the Cats. Two of her last three games haven’t been great, but her other four matches this season have been in excess of 60 fantasy points which would be a great return for her price.

Saturday Slate

A tough slate to form fantasy teams with so many good players in action. You’re going to have to be really selective about which elite players you pick and which ones you fade.

Kiara Bowers ($20,410) might be too expensive for many teams but we can’t go without mentioning her recent form. A staggering 19 tackles last week, backing up from 16 tackles the week before, she’s put together five games above 90 fantasy points with an average of 127 over her last three games. They are enormous numbers, but she does come up against a tough Kangaroos midfield this week. If she goes off again, then she’s a must-have if you want to win, but if she has a bad game then she could be a good fade!

Once again we’re also going to mention Erin Phillips ($15,380) who would likely be leading the AFLW Best & Fairest award this season. She was again excellent last week with an even 100 fantasy points, and yet somehow her salary has come down. The ability to pick her as a forward makes her a great base to build your fantasy team around.

With a lot of higher-priced elite mids on this slate, a lot of the middle and lower-tier players have dropped in price and offer tremendous value to balance your teams. Some of these include Anne Hatchard ($11,220), Lily Mithen ($10,610), Stephanie Cain ($10,460), Maddison Gay ($9,750), Dani Varnhagen ($8,760) and Aliesha Newman ($8,330).

Sunday Slate

A few of the Bulldogs have copped a price rise with Kristy Lamb ($16,670), Ellie Blackburn ($16,040), Monique Conti ($15,270) and Brooke Lochland ($14,090) all looking too expensive for my liking. I’ve also had enough of picking Katie Brennan ($11,970) this season. Her price always looks appealing but her output hasn’t been good enough and she was completely blanketed last weekend.

Instead, I prefer the value offered by some of the Brisbane players who are taking on the bottom-of-the-table Magpies.

We mentioned Nat Exon ($15,230) in our article last week and she had another great game with 98 fantasy points. She’s a couple thousand cheaper today and without a lot of elite mids on this slate, she looks a very chalky pick. Her teammates Emily Bates ($13,890) and Jacqui Yorston ($11,300) are also value, while Jade Ellenger ($7,750) was good on debut with 52 fantasy points last week as a cheap option.

Magpie Brittany Bonnici ($12,470) racked up a ton last week and although her season has been a bit mixed, with that high ceiling, she might be worth a gamble to continue her form.

Sarah Rowe ($9,650) has been one of the success stories for Collingwood this season, and her 74 fantasy points last week was a season best. She’s showing plenty of class and more time up the ground should convert to a good score for her price.
