AFL St.Kilda Essendon

Round 14 of the 2022 AFL season sees two Victorian teams at opposite ends of the table clash at Marvel Stadium on Friday night, as St Kilda take on Essendon.

The Saints have proven themselves to be worthy of a finals spot so far but face a tough run to close out the regular season, while Essendon has had a calamitous campaign to date.

Weather

Melbourne

The roof of Marvel Stadium will shield the players from inclement weather that has hung over Melbourne for the best part of a fortnight. As such, expect perfect conditions for footy.

Where to Attack?

Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars for this match.

AFL Data Tools

St Kilda has allowed opposition defences a kick and mark game all year and I expect this to continue on Friday night, especially if the ball spends plenty of time in Essendon’s backline as expected.

AFL Data Tools

Essendon’s woes have meant big points for opposition forwards. The Bombers are the third ranked team for points conceded to forwards, so look to the Saints options here. Tall forwards look especially tantalising, as Essendon lacks size down back.

Game Script – Essendon backs, St.Kilda forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Massimo D’Ambrosio ($6,000)

Massimo D’Ambrosio comes in for his first game of AFL footy after earning a spot on Essendon’s list through the mid-season draft. The small rebounding defender picked up over 30 touches in the VFL last weekend and could easily achieve value with half that many disposals.

MID-PRICED PLAYS

Jye Caldwell ($10,610)

Caldwell has hovered around the fringes of Essendon’s midfield group this season, averaging 40% centre bounce attendances per match. That figure should increase dramatically on Friday night though, as he is a prime candidate to benefit from Darcy Parish’s absence. The young midfielder has shown a decent ceiling in 2022, scoring over 90 three times.

Tim Membrey ($10,770)

Membrey has been a very consistent player for St Kilda this year, kicking goals while gathering plenty of marks and disposals across the ground. He gets an ideal matchup this week and has scored 80+ in his last two matches against the Bombers.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Brad Crouch ($15,400)

Talk about taking responsibility. Crouch has thrived in the premier midfielder role at St Kilda since captain Jack Steele went down with injury, reeling off four 100+ scores in five games. Three of those scores were 110+, which is the kind of ceiling we are after at this price point.
