St Kilda are fighting for this finals lives as they sit half a game outside the top 8 while Brisbane are just percentage points outside the top 4 and would love a double chance in the first round of the finals series.

Weather

There are absolutely no weather concerns for this matchup givne it is being played at Marvel Stadium where the roof is available to provide protection from the elements. Let’s play some fantasy football!

Where to Attack?

Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars for this match.

The one position that offers an obvious target is backs against the Saints. This season St Kilda have given up the third most points to the position at over 4 points per player above league average. As usual for teams that concede points to defenders the Saints give up one of the highest uncontested possession and marks in the league, and this extends to points conceded to wings where the Saints give up slightly above league average on the season.

Game Script –  Brisbane backs and outside midfielders, St Kilda inside midfielders

VALUE PLAYS

Marcus Windhager ($7,600) has been unleashed with a role of tagging an opposition midfielder over the past three weeks. During that period our centre bounce attendance tool indicates that he has attended from 57-68% of the Saints centre bounces and this has resulted in two of 78 and 84 fantasy points during that period. On this slate I would expect him to go to Lachie Neale who is typically the number one player targeted for the Lions.

Hunter Clark ($8,730) has slowly started to regain form that had every Saints supporter drooling two years ago. He hasn’t received any time through the middle like was anticipated preseason, however the half back is always a friendly role for anyone’s fantasy score and he has posted solid scores for this price point of 81 and 71 fantasy points from his last two rounds.

MID-PRICE PLAY

Daniel Rich ($12,710) eased back into AFL action last week after a week out due to injury. He posted just 67 fantasy points, however he should be better for the run this week and as noted above this is one of the top matchups in the league for his position. Before his season was interrupted by injures, Rich was in elite form with a three game run of 112, 97 and 125. He has a ceiling that can win you a GPP at this price point and this is the type of matchup where he can capitalize on that scoring potential.

Oscar McInerney ($12,270) relished the number one ruck role to himself last week in an easy matchup against Carlton, posting 37 hit outs on his way to 105 fantasy points. This week is one again an elite matchup for his position, although it is a little more undercover. The Saints on the season have been quite stingy for fantasy scoring by opposition rucks, but that is primarily driven by Paddy Ryder who has been out with injury in recent weeks. During the last five games while Ryder has been out of the line-up the Saints are giving up 90 points per game to the opponents number one ruckman, which is the 5th most in the league over the time period.

PREMIUM PLAY

Jack Steele ($16,490)… I love the safety of Steele given the other premium midfielders are in a similar price bracket. Prior to last week’s game down at Geelong he has gone at 107+ for six weeks in a row. While it is hard to find a position to attack the Lions at, they can sneakily conceded points to inside midfielders (giving up slightly above league average to the role this season). There is value I like on this slate and given the tag potential with Neale I will be looking to fade him, which means playing either Steele or Crouch for the Saints at home.
