Saturday brings us another magnificent offering of football in Round 22 of the 2022 AFL season, as two Melbourne giants clash while hostilities are renewed in the west.

It kicks off with the Western Bulldogs aiming to keep their finals hopes alive as they host the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Marvel Stadium. The Suns look to try an end the 11 game winning streak as they host Geelong in the twilight game, before Melbourne take on Patrick Cripps and the Blues at the MCG Saturday night.

This is last chance saloon for the Dogs in particular in chasing a finals berth and DFS players looking to secure a fabled ‘Golden Ticket’ to the live final, so expect a tense day of action!

Weather

Melbourne

Adelaide

Gold Coast

Perth

Weather looks like it will definitely impact this slate, as all venues are expecting rain at some point on Saturday. Wet conditions look most likely to impact the matches in Adelaide, Perth and on the Gold Coast, however it is worth watching the radars right up until the first bounce.

Where to Attack?

With five matches on the bill again this Saturday, there are plenty of avenues to attack. Let’s call on the Daily Fantasy Rankings Data Tools to assist our selections!

Based on the DFR ‘Points Against’ data, the match between Adelaide and North Melbourne should be a fantasy feast. Both teams give away loads of points and 100+ scores, so regardless of conditions there should be opportunities for players to score big.

Backs against the Demons has been a trend all year, so there is no reason to not go back to the well. Giants defenders are also likely to get a boost against the Bulldogs. The best thing about these plays is that both games are likely to remain dry.

West Coast are monstered in the midfield just about every week according to the ‘Points Against’ tool. The Eagles are likely running out of puff after a draining season and the tight midfield of Fremantle is in a great spot to capitalise on Saturday night.

Game Script – Adelaide, Fremantle stacks

VALUE PLAYS

Xavier O’Neill ($7,570)

West Coast has been looking to give younger players an extended run in the midfield in recent weeks and O’Neill has been one of the main beneficiaries. Over the last month he has been thrown into the centre bounce rotation and managed two 74+ scores, excellent returns at this price point.

Nick Haynes ($7,760)

Haynes has failed to reach the heights of previous seasons, averaging just 55 fantasy points in 2022. He has at times been denied his intercepting role in the backline and has also faced injury setbacks, however in the last few weeks there have been signs of improvement. Haynes hit 85 last week against Essendon and has scored 91 twice, so his ceiling is still there, which will be needed on a slate bereft of value.

MID-PRICED PLAY

Mitch McGovern ($9,310)

Since returning from a lengthy injury layoff McGovern has returned scores of 87 and 89 in a fantasy friendly intercepting role. He gets the best matchup in the league this weekend against Melbourne, and should be able to thrive on the haphazard forward entries that the Demons often generate.

PREMIUM PLAY

Andrew Brayshaw ($16,690)

This game is setup for a huge performance from Brayshaw. Fremantle’s star midfielder has only failed to hit 100 points once at Optus Stadium this year and has produced five scores exceeding 130, so he has the potential to tear this slate apart. His recent form has been solid if not spectacular, but don’t let that deter you.

Sam Docherty ($16,120)

Docherty has had a truly remarkable season returning from testicular cancer, achieving a 108-point average. Scoring has easy for him on the expanses of the MCG and Melbourne are a fantastic matchup. To top it off, Docherty has averaged 122.7 in his last three appearances against the Demons.
