The final full field PGA event of the 2019 calendar year takes us to St Simons Island in Georgia for the RSM Classic. The event is played at the Sea Island Golf Club which has two different courses. The field will play the ‘Seaside’ (Par 70 7,055 yards) for three rounds and the ‘Plantation’ (Par 72 7,058 yards) on either on Thursday or Friday.

A full field of 156 golfers will play the two courses in the first 2 days before the cut of 65 golfers take place. Like the previous PGA events recently, the field is a pretty weak with only Matt Kuchar and Webb Simpson household names in the field. Former Champions in Kevin Kisner and Charles Howell III are in the field.

The Seaside Course is a tight undulating course with small Bermuda greens. The course is suspect to winds but currently the forecast for the opening two days showing calm conditions. The Plantation course (which is only played once) has a similar setup but more sheltered by the winds by the parklands within. The course ideally needs a great putter to excel as the majority will find the Greens here.

According to Rotogrinders.com this weeks key statistics include:

Key Statistics (In Order of Importance)

1) Strokes Gained Approach

2) Birdie or Better %

3) Par 4 Scoring

4) Strokes Gained Putting

5) Strokes Gained Around the Green

With this weak field I am sticking to the tournament betting market leader in Webb Simpson who hasn’t played in quite some time. The course suits him to a tee and deploying him at his huge salary. I deliberately missed the Harris English bandwagon last week but I will be a late arrival to the English party. English is playing some great golf and if wasn’t for Brandon Todd winning back-back then English would be all the rage. I am also pretty big on J.T Poston after his hot finish at the Mayakoba last week. Russell Henley will be interesting selection after his bizarre penalty ruling at the Mayakoba. Was on track to make the weekend before copping 8 stroke penalties for breach of golf ball rules. Tough week to nail down a preferred lineup and certainly looking forward to the New Year when the big players are back in Hawaii. Lock this week is at 0115 Friday AEDT
